Oliver Murdock is a contemporary, abstract artist whose work visually communicates psychological experience as a means of illuminating issues around mental health. His multidisciplinary practice encompasses painting, printmaking, glass sculpture, and installation. 

By rerouting the intrusive thoughts and repetitive phrases characteristic of anxiety he opens up space for a new collective understanding of the condition.

 

Hypnotising memories are layered in sculptural formations subsuming the audience in a previously subjective world. Each piece allows further insight and investigation into hidden layers of human experience. 

 

Oliver’s practice currently focuses on the documentation of obsessive thought through intrusive rumination and the investigation of different communication techniques. The exploration of overlaying these obsessive thought patterns leads the words into an abstract form, therefore removing their legibility and disconnecting their potential. The obliteration of language through consistent repetition is somewhat of a therapeutic practice and one that allows him to seal them in an archived state of neutrality.
